Richmond, B.C. (PGA of BC) - On a day where wind gusts reached almost 40 kilometres per hour at Quilchena Golf & Country Club in Richmond, Dave Zibrik (Point Grey Golf & Country Club) maintained his first round lead to claim the 2016 Cleveland Golf/Srixon Canada PGA of BC Club Professional Championship presented by Club Car.
Firing rounds of 67-70, Zibrik had a four stroke lead after Monday's round, while five players sat hot on his tail in second place.
"Today I played really well," Zibrik said post round. "Yesterday it seemed as though I relied a bit on my putter but today I drove the ball better than I probably have all year. It never really felt like I was out of position and I closed with a bit of a dream finish - making eagle on the last hole."
2016 marked Zibrik's first year playing in the Club Professional Championship, as he took on the Head Professional title at Point Grey Golf & Country Club earlier this year.
"Winning a PGA of BC event is something I've always wanted to do," Zibrik continued. "I've been close, I finished second at the PGA of BC Championship last year and I think I finished third at the PGA of BC Assistants'. With the trophy now being named after Dick Munn, he was the longtime Golf Professional at Point Grey, it means a lot to our membership and it means a lot to me."
This year, the PGA of BC honoured golf legend Dick Munn by awarding the Dick Munn Memorial Trophy to this year's Champion. Munn was the consummate professional who mentored dozens of Assistant Professionals that went on to be Head Professionals themselves.
For his first place finish, Zibrik cashed the $2,600 Champion cheque. Matt Palsenbarg (Northview Golf Academy) finished five strokes behind at 4-under for the tournament taking home $2,000, followed by Host Professional Victor Vianzon in third, cashing $1,500.
