RICHMOND, BC (April 22, 2015) - On the heels of the announcement with the Vancouver Canucks to continue Canucks Junior Golf Week in 2015, the PGA of British Columbia is proud to announce that Odlum Brown Limited has once again signed on as Exclusive Presenting Sponsor of the program for a second straight year.
Canucks Junior Golf Week will run July 2-9 at more than 60 registered facilities across British Columbia and provides an avenue for future junior golfers to have the chance to pick up a golf club for the very first time in a team setting. This platform also serves as a great opportunity for new golfers to gain familiarity with golf facilities in their respective communities and their established junior programs.
“Odlum Brown Limited is proud to partner with the PGA of BC for the second year as Presenting Sponsor of Canucks Junior Golf Week,” said Debra Hewson, President & CEO of Odlum Brown Limited. “Supporting children and sports in our communities is very important to us. This partnership is a wonderful opportunity to encourage children provincially to be active and engaged in sport, while learning life skills such as sportsmanship and respect in a safe, fun environment.”
“We are extremely excited to have Odlum Brown Limited re-sign with us for this important initiative,” said Donald Miyazaki, Executive Director of the PGA of British Columbia. “Our two organizations along with the Vancouver Canucks share similar values and visions in terms of community development and this partnership is a great fit on all levels. This is one of the most exhilarating initiatives we have worked on and the potential for growth is tremendous. With a 20% increase in participating facilities this year, we are optimistic for a significant participation growth in 2015”, he adds.
Canucks Junior Golf Week allows participants to choose one camp during the program where certified PGA of British Columbia Golf Professionals host elementary golf camps for junior golfers of all levels and abilities. These one-day camps will cover the basics of the fundamentals of golf and allow participants to learn golf properly in a fun, team setting. All proceeds from the events go directly to the golf facilities to compensate facility fees, instructor's time, and to further grow the game of golf.
In 2014, its inaugural year, over 400 junior golfers of all ages took advantage of this great program at over 54 PGA Professional-instructed camps throughout the province. 75% of participants were aged ten or younger, and the majority of them had never played golf prior to this program.
