ROYAL COLWOOD GOLF CLUB SET TO HOST 2016 PGA OF BC CHAMPIONSHIP

Richmond, B.C. (PGA of BC) – From August 22-23, 2016, 84 players will battle for the Champion title at the TaylorMade & adidas Golf PGA of BC Championship presented by Axis Insurance Managers Inc. The tournament, hosted by Royal Colwood Golf Club, features a strong contingent of PGA of Canada professionals from across British Columbia.

Headlining the 2016 field are past champions, including: three-time Champion Bryn Parry (2015, 2008, 2000), Gordy Scutt (2014), Lindsay Bernakevitch (2011), Doug Morgan (2010 and 2009), Mike Haraguchi (2005), and Phil Jonas (2003). Defending the Champion title from the last time the event was held at Royal Colwood in 2006 is Edd Boudreau.

The former PGA of BC champions have seen continued success this season, with Scutt once again dominating the Vancouver Island Professional Tour, sitting atop the VIPT Order of Merit Standings. In June, Jonas successfully defended his PGA of BC Seniors’ Champion title for the first time in Association history. Additionally, Scutt, along with Boudreau, Jonas, Morgan, Bernakevitch, and Parry, qualified for the PGA Championship of Canada earlier this season, Parry advancing to the Elite Eight and Jonas finishing third. This year’s PGA of BC Champion will earn a direct entry into the 2017 PGA Championship of Canada.

Other notable competitors include 2016 PGA of BC tournament champions, Oliver Tubb of University Golf Club (PGA of BC Assistant’s Champion), as well as Matt Palsenbarg and John Shin of Northview Golf Academy. As a team, Palsenbarg and Shin claimed the 2016 PGA of BC Pro-Assistant at Talking Rock Golf Resort, in addition to earning medalist honours at the Nike Golf Team Championship of Canada Regional Qualifier earlier this month.

The 2016 PGA of BC Championship is a 36-hole stroke play competition that will see competitors battle for a $34,295 purse over two days, with a winner’s share of $6,000.

ABOUT TAYLORMADE & ADIDAS GOLF
In the spring of 1979 a golf equipment salesman named Gary Adams took out a $24,000 loan on his home and founded the TaylorMade Golf Company. Counting him, there were three employees and a single, innovative product: a 12-degree driver cast of stainless steel. This new metalwood looked and sounded different from a wooden wood, and most important, it performed differently. Adams, the son of a golf professional, was adamant that TaylorMade clubs maintain ties to what true golfers perceived an authentic golf club should look and feel like. They were committed to combining innovation with authenticity, to always be passionate about the game, and pledged to be competitive - to work hard to establish itself and grow.

The same values singled out 30 years ago by Gary Adams are still revered and practiced today at TaylorMade, adidas Golf, and Ashworth as we continue to deliver products that help players of all skill levels reach their potential. Since 1979 our mission has remained the same: Create the Best Performing Golf Products in the World.
